With some extra pro tips from the team at Kayvar.
We can’t stress enough how important it is to clean your makeup brushes often. Afterall, they are going onto your face.
If you’re an average makeup user, we recommend washing your brushes once a week. If you wear significant amounts of makeup, washing after each use is ideal. (This applies to makeup sponges as well by the way, in case you’re wondering.)
All that you need? Some baby shampoo and paper towels.
First, rinse your brushes under lukewarm water. (Kayvar’s pro tip: Try to avoid the area where the handle meets the bristles - you wouldn’t want the glue that holds the bristles together to come off!)
Squeeze a nickel-sized amount of shampoo into a dish/your palms. Swirl your brushes in the shampoo into a lather. Rinse with clean water and carefully squeeze the water out. (Kayvar’s pro tip: Use your thumb and index finger to squeeze the water out gently instead of your fist. This keeps the bristles intact.)
Dot them onto a paper towel and lay flat to dry. (Kayvar’s pro tip: Never leave your brushes to dry upright as the water could flow into the handle and loosen the glue attached to the bristles.)
One last pro tip from us: Just as how you should change your toothbrush every 3 months, makeup brushes and sponges should be changed every 3 months too.
